House of Dior Beijing Lights Up Taikoo Li Sanlitun
The House of Dior Beijing, a stunning petal-shaped architectural masterpiece, officially opened its doors on Thursday in the heart of Taikoo Li Sanlitun, the epicenter of luxury and cultural vibrancy in Beijing, China. Spanning five stories, this retail superstructure is one of the brand's largest in China, marking the launch of Taikoo Li Sanlitun North, an open-air luxury destination featuring standalone structures for Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Hermès.
"House of Dior Beijing is more than a boutique; it's a house of dreams," said Delphine Arnault, chairman and CEO of Christian Dior Couture. "It offers unique experiences, blending art de vivre in architecture, gastronomy, design, craftsmanship, and contemporary art, a place of renewal and wonder."
Arnault emphasized the significance of this new location in Sanlitun, a dynamic district in Beijing, highlighting Dior's enduring connection to China and its inspiring creative scene. The building's facade, designed by French architect Christian de Portzamparc, is a blooming mega-sculpture with sweeping curves, constructed of 14 petals and golden glass tiles, symbolizing flexibility and movement, reminiscent of Christian Dior's fabric draping techniques and ancient Athenian caryatids.
Portzamparc's design process involved a special resin-casting technique and collaboration with local manufacturers, resulting in 18 months of craftsmanship for each 65-foot-tall petal. The petal structure was adjusted for Beijing, with wider spaces and a massive vertical golden glass tile wall, inspired by traditional Chinese architecture.
Daylight enhances the interaction between Dior's glass structure and the neighboring Louis Vuitton flagship, while at night, the House of Dior transforms into a glowing lantern, creating a dynamic dialogue between light and space. Portzamparc's design aims to reintroduce pedestrian life to Beijing, addressing the challenges of modern urban planning and the loss of traditional street life.
Taikoo Li Sanlitun, a pioneer in neighborhood shopping, has evolved from a mass-market hub to a luxury destination, inspiring the creation of Taikoo Li Chengdu. The Dior flagship showcases a magical holiday window display, featuring vintage travel trunks and miniature scenes, and a well-lit interior with Cabochon parquet flooring, gold-accented wallpapers, and fresh bouquets, paying homage to Dior's love for flowers.
The store also serves as a gallery, displaying designer furniture and artworks by renowned artists like Claude Lalanne, Sarah Meyohas, and Valeria Nascimento. At the fine-dining restaurant, Monsieur Dior by Anne-Sophie Pic, Chinese painter Hong Hao's artworks celebrate the color red and Beijing's spatial order. The main attraction is a monumental spiral staircase leading to the womenswear, accessories, and fine jewelry offerings, including the cruise 2026 collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri.
The third floor showcases men's collections, timepieces, and tailoring, while the top level features private rooms and an outdoor terrace. The opening ceremony was attended by Arnault, Pierre-Emmanuel Angeloglou, Jonathan Anderson, Luca Guadagnino, and celebrities, including Zhang Ziyi, Ana Zheng, Xin Liu, Wei Deng, and Ye Zhou, marking a significant moment in Dior's global presence.
