Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Returns to the Ring with a Knockout Win
After a tumultuous 2025, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. made a triumphant return to the boxing world on Saturday, securing a knockout victory. The former WBC middleweight champion had a challenging year, facing a one-sided decision loss to Jake Paul and deportation to Mexico for visa overstay and false application claims. Chavez Jr. was also wanted in Mexico for alleged ties to a drug cartel, the Sinaloa Cartel.
Chavez Jr. resumed his boxing career in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, where he defeated Argentinian Angel Julian Sacco in the fourth round. This win marks his first victory in a boxing ring since 2024, when he beat former MMA fighter Uriah Hall. The victory comes as a relief for Chavez Jr., who was humiliated by Paul's one-sided decision in Anaheim last June.
The boxer's legal troubles began when he was arrested by the United States Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles just days after the Paul loss. An active arrest warrant from 2023 for alleged cartel ties led to his deportation to Mexico in August. He was briefly jailed in Hermosillo, Sonora, before being released on bail while awaiting trial outside police custody.
Despite his legal challenges, Chavez Jr. remained dedicated to his boxing career. His knockout win over Sacco demonstrates his resilience and determination to continue competing at the highest level.
