A seismic shift has hit the metal world: BATTLE BEAST and their powerhouse vocalist, Noora Louhimo, are parting ways. After an incredible 13-year journey and six albums together, the band announced on December 15th that Noora would be stepping away to focus on her solo career. This news undoubtedly left fans reeling, but the band's statement was filled with gratitude and support, emphasizing their shared history and the exciting new paths ahead for both parties.
BATTLE BEAST expressed their sadness at the departure, but also their understanding, acknowledging that Noora's desire to explore new creative avenues, something that the demanding schedule of BATTLE BEAST didn't fully allow. They made it clear that the memories created together would be cherished forever and wished her nothing but success and happiness. They also assured fans that the band would continue their journey, with a new vocalist to be announced the very next day, on December 16th.
Noora herself echoed these sentiments, sharing her deep appreciation for her time with BATTLE BEAST. She expressed how much she had grown, learned, and explored her musical identity during those 13 years. She emphasized that this was not an end, but a beginning of a new adventure for both her and the band.
But here's where it gets controversial... In November 2023, Noora revealed she had been diagnosed with a ruptured left carotid artery, which led to the postponement of the band's tour. This health scare added another layer of complexity to her decision, highlighting the need to prioritize her well-being and future endeavors.
Noora's journey with BATTLE BEAST began in 2012. Interestingly, she had no prior experience as a metal vocalist when she joined, stepping in to replace Nitte Valo (a.k.a. Nitte Vänskä). This makes her story even more remarkable, showing her rapid acclimation to the genre.
Three years ago, Noora, who released her debut solo album, "Eternal Wheel Of Time And Space" under the NOORA LOUHIMO EXPERIENCE banner in 2021, openly discussed her struggles with eating disorders and weight, admitting she had been dealing with these issues since childhood. She also mentioned battling depression and anxiety, sometimes without a clear cause.
In an interview, Noora shared how she ended up fronting BATTLE BEAST. She received a call from then-BATTLE BEAST guitarist Anton Kabanen, who had discovered her on YouTube while searching for a new vocalist. He was looking for someone who could sing his songs without compromise. Noora, who had been singing since the age of four, was a fan of '80s heavy metal and had taken classical singing lessons as a teenager. She also studied music in pop/jazz and gained experience in jam sessions and bands. Her participation in a singing competition in 2011, where she won with Janis Joplin's "Piece Of My Heart," led to the birth of her single "Relax."
BATTLE BEAST's latest studio album, "Steelbound," was released in October via Nuclear Blast. The band's European tour, which began on October 17, included their biggest German headline show to date at Hamburg’s Inselpark Arena. They were joined by DOMINUM as a special guest and MAJESTICA as the opening act, keeping them on the road until mid-December.
