Dadon, a 46-year-old kitesurfing veteran with over two decades of experience, was caught in a sudden and violent wind vortex off the coast of Bat Yam during a storm.
His former wife poignantly expressed her grief on Facebook, writing, “You loved the wind so much — a passion of 20 years. You were always waiting for windy days. In the end, the wind took you.” This heartfelt tribute encapsulates the deep connection Dadon had with the sport and the wind itself.
The accident occurred when powerful gusts of wind, as captured in newly surfaced footage, unexpectedly lifted Dadon from the water. Friends reported that he was caught in a sudden wind vortex, leaving him with no time to react. Emergency services confirmed that Dadon was hurled more than 150 meters (about 500 feet) before hitting rocks. Despite the swift response of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Another surfer sustained minor injuries in the incident.
In the wake of the tragedy, the kitesurfing community has come together to mourn the loss of a beloved friend. A memorial was held at Tayo Beach in Bat Yam, where friends and fellow surfers lit candles and shared memories of Dadon. One friend described him as a warm and generous person, always putting others before himself. Another shared that Dadon symbolized “endless giving.”
Ronen Noach, a friend who was kitesurfing with Dadon at the time, described the conditions as an extreme wind vortex. He estimated that Dadon was carried by the wind approximately 200 meters before likely hitting his head on a rock. Another surfer, identified as Oren, described the scene as surreal, stating that the wind lifted the surfers “like something out of a movie.”
