Prepare to be terrified! The latest update for the Grotmas Calendar introduces a new Chaos Space Marines Detachment, designed to bring the terror of the Traitor Legions to the forefront of your battles. These warbands specialize in shock assaults, using fear as their ultimate weapon. But how do they do it?
Imagine the battlefield shrouded in darkness, where your enemy's fears become your greatest advantage. This detachment, inspired by the Night Lords, excels at exploiting the psychological vulnerabilities of their foes. They sow discord and dread, turning anxiety and confusion into lethal tools.
Here's how it works: Enemy units within 12 inches of your Chaos Space Marine units must take Battle-shock tests during the Command phase if their Starting Strength is under Half Strength, with an additional -1 penalty to the test. This is where the real fun begins! Chaos Space Marines attacking Battle-shocked units gain +1 To Wound, while the enemy suffers a -1 penalty To Hit. Talk about turning the tide!
The Enhancements further amplify this shock assault theme. You can grant a unit Stealth and immunity to attacks beyond 18 inches while on an objective, or send a Jump Pack unit back into Strategic Reserve. Alternatively, Chaos Lords with Jump Packs can join Warp Talons, gaining Scout 6 inches. Characters can also gain new ways to force Battle-shock tests, maximizing your Detachment's effectiveness.
The Stratagems are all about capitalizing on your enemies' fear. They offer multiple ways to inflict Battle-shock tests, spreading terror throughout your opponent's army. Some Stratagems provide bonuses against Battle-shocked units, like re-rolling To Hit rolls or improving the AP of your attacks by 1. And for those daring assaults, there are Stratagems allowing you to Advance and Charge, or Fall Back and either Shoot or Charge.
But here's where it gets controversial... Some might argue that relying so heavily on psychological warfare can be less effective against certain armies.
What do you think? Does this new detachment sound like a terrifying force on the battlefield? Are you excited to try out these new tactics, or do you prefer a more straightforward approach? Share your thoughts in the comments!
