In a surprising turn of events, former Oregon Ducks running back Jayden Limar has decided to switch allegiances and return to his roots by joining the University of Washington Huskies. Announcing his transfer on social media, Limar's decision has certainly stirred conversations among college football fans.
Limar, who was a highly regarded four-star recruit, spent the last three seasons with the Ducks, where he made notable contributions both in the backfield and on special teams. During the most recent season, he recorded impressive statistics, rushing for 262 yards and achieving three touchdowns, while averaging an impressive 5.7 yards across 46 carries—marking career highs for him. Additionally, he caught 11 passes for 75 yards, demonstrating his versatility as a player.
One of Limar's standout moments was when he returned a blocked punt for a touchdown in Oregon’s playoff victory against James Madison, which ended with a score of 51-34. He also made headlines with a remarkable 27-yard reception, the longest play from scrimmage during their quarterfinal win over Texas Tech.
Standing at 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 205 pounds, Limar has amassed a total of 442 rushing yards, scored four touchdowns, and averaged 4.7 yards per carry throughout his time with Oregon. Moreover, he showcased his skills in receiving, with 20 catches totaling 207 yards and another touchdown, in addition to returning two kicks for 53 yards.
With the departure of starter Jonah Coleman and the loss of presumed starter Adam Mohammed to the transfer portal, Limar's addition brings valuable experience to the UW backfield. Mohammed recently committed to Cal, further reshaping UW’s roster for the upcoming season.
Before his time at Oregon, Limar was a standout player at Lake Stevens High School, where he significantly contributed to leading the Vikings to their first-ever state championship in 2022. In his senior year alone, he rushed for an astounding 2,003 yards and 36 touchdowns on an average of 8.5 yards per carry, along with an additional 328 yards and four touchdowns on just 26 carries. Notably, he achieved 185 rushing yards in the state championship game against Kennedy Catholic, even after recovering from a high-ankle sprain sustained a week earlier in the semifinals.
His exceptional talent earned him the title of The Everett Herald’s All-Area Player of the Year in 2022, culminating his high school career with an impressive 5,028 yards from scrimmage and a remarkable total of 77 touchdowns.
As of Tuesday morning, the Huskies have secured commitments from nine transfer portal recruits, according to 247Sports, indicating an active offseason as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
